Such an excellent list! Quality information, what I have looked for!
I'm in a planning phase of changing my aquarium into a south american biotope paludarium for my neon tetras, can You help me with the plant selection?
I tell You the details of my "setup".
80x35x50 cm - 140 litres
Tetratec EX1200
2x55W Power Compact - maybe change it to HQI 150W
for decoration a lot of mangrowe/mangroove woods.

In the "water" I won't take any plants, just roots, and sand. There will be floating plant, and I'm in a dilemma what to take outside of the water, and I need Your help for this.

Thanks!
Regards,
stevo

I was told a couple of days ago that UKAPS is not just a representation of just a few senior members, this after my experience in Holland, and that has restored my
trust and belief on what is one of the best forums and movement related to Aquatic Plants in the UK.

I do have a great admiration for what you achieved, and for what you stand for, but I did experience no so great attitude from other UKAPS members, and
sadly some of them were representing UKAPS.

Got nothing against UKAPS, I am a member of the forum and do occasionally contribute to it.

I'm sorry you feel that way about UKAPS and its Founders, Luis and AG.

However, it's interesting to see how we're perceived by some and I appreciate your honesty.

Luis, what makes you say our attitude is really bad?

What makes you think what we see ourselves as above all others?

Finally, I can categorically state that that have no 'vested' interest in any of the sponsors. We are a non-profit making Society and I am deeply offended by anyone that states otherwise.

Love what you did with your tank. Gives me inspiration for a future cube-shaped/sized nano aquascape ;)

Thanks for the report ! Very interesting ^^

It is the fact that they see themselves above all others that puts me off. Their scapes are not all that, and the attitude really bad. Not from all, but for a large part. Less egos at ASW and many other forums which are indeed a community.

I would reply and kindly remind him that ukaps was around for 2 years without a single sponsor and it was a much nicer place back then for it!
The greed machine and all the founders vested interests in it. If the RHS was ran in the same selfish way as ukaps is they'd have never made it past a few years. I've been around since the very start when it was a subforum on barr report and it's always been the founders little ego baby, but more and more so now as they see it as a way of garnering fame, praise and monetary gain, yet forget that it's not just their forum or society and by being a society it's of mutual ownership. The holier than though attitudes simply don't wash, especially as they see themselves as above everyone else and superior in every way despite most of their scapes being distinctly average!

As an owner of a webstore, and also an owner of a forum, I keep the two separate. I also invite sponsors in free of charge. They have their own area to post in and can also join in the main conversations.

I did ask to become a sponsor of UKAPS but sadly that fell on deaf ears, but my business continues. One day they may review that request accordingly.

I treat forum sponsors the same as a forum member as they do not pay for it. If they post something out of line and someone complains about it - then the post is removed following discussion with the mod team. We also have a 3 strike rule... 3 strikes - you are out... The forum employs a zero tolerance approach as we want the place to be interesting and welcoming to any age group and for that - we have to be strict.

I love the idea, personally. I even do something like that. I have a 75 gallon tank and have long narrow windowsill planters along the top in the back.

There are 1 inch by 3 inch boards running under the edges of the window planters to distribute the weight evenly so I don't break the tank's center support.

It works beautifully for growing plants aquaponically. I'm currently gowing water mint, oregano, tomatos, and a decorative plant I've forgotten the name of and they all seem to be doing well.
